Monday 3rd June to Sunday 9th June
Volunteers’ Week kicks off today, and we are excited to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing volunteers. At Active Communities, our 45 dedicated volunteers are the backbone of our organisation, driving our mission and making a tangible difference in our community.
Become a volunteer at Active Communities
As a community and volunteer-led organisation, we, like many others, rely heavily on the time, knowledge, and skills of our volunteers to provide essential local services. Our volunteers fulfil a variety of roles, including:
We ensure that our volunteers are well-supported throughout their journey with us. The process begins with an application, followed by a one-on-one meeting with our Volunteer Coordinator to understand their interests and goals. We then provide induction training and opportunities to shadow experienced volunteers in different roles, allowing them to find the best fit for their skills and interests.
Volunteering with us is not just about giving back to the community; it’s also a fantastic way to build new skills, gain valuable experience, and make lasting friendships.
"Active Communities is giving me such an amazing life. I love meeting people and made so many friends." - Recent feedback from a volunteer

Our CEO, Alan Clark, shares his appreciation:
"We are proud that our organisation is volunteer-led and we wouldn’t be here without them. Whether its welcoming people, leading activities, befriending, supporting community members to access our pantry or being part of our board, our volunteers give so much of their time and energy and play a vital role in our work. As we mark Volunteers’ Week; we want to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to each and every one.”
Volunteers’ Week is a special time for us to pause and say thank you. To show our appreciation, we have invited all our volunteers to join us for a celebration event on Friday, 7th June. This event is our way of recognising their invaluable contributions and celebrating their hard work and dedication.
As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2024, we invite everyone in the community to join us in thanking our volunteers. Their efforts make a significant impact, and their commitment and passion help us achieve our mission every day. Here's to our volunteers – thank you for everything you do!
