Active Communities is a community-led health and wellbeing charity based in Johnstone and working across Renfrewshire. Our mission is to build healthy, supportive and vibrant communities. We do this by empowering local people -primarily those disproportionately affected by poverty, trauma, and poor health outcomes - to improve their health and wellbeing. We strive to reach the highest need groups; families with children at greatest risk of poverty; over 18s experiencing poor mental health; disadvantaged young people experiencing poor mental health and without positive destinations.
From our origins as a community jogging group, we have grown significantly in pursuit of our vision for everyone to live healthier, more fulfilling lives; now a recognised community anchor organisation, engaging 5000+ local people in 2024/2025.
Designed collaboratively with the community, Station Seven is our base and a vibrant, stigma-free space where we welcome 100-150 people daily. Our work is made possible by commitments of staff, partners and volunteers who gave 4000+ hours last year. How and what we deliver is determined by our community, resulting in direct support, and facilitating community partners to deliver evidence-based work.
