Community Health Champions

Active Communities has been delivering the Community Health Champions element of the Community Connecters programme in Johnstone, Linwood and Paisley. The programme has focussed on building the skills and confidence of local volunteers and supporting them to develop groups and activities to address local needs and priorities.

Over the last year the Community Health Champions have supported the development of local community hubs, which are based in Belmar Court Linwood, Maple Drive Johnstone Castle and Quarry Street, Johnstone. The hubs have given the Health Champions an opportunity to develop new and exciting activities, recruit new volunteers and continue to promote health and wellbeing

The Community Health Champions are running information sessions at the Quarry Street hub five mornings per week and are now delivering 8 groups across the hubs with 120 new participants. These groups include walking, jogging , cooking, bike buddies, active families, health drop ins, Pound Fitness and Sunday Blether. They have raised awareness of health and healthy choices, improved health and wellbeing and are tackling loneliness and isolation.

The Community Health Champions support a wide range of community road shows, events, partners and can buddy people to groups. They have also had the opportunity to shape local services and share their knowledge and experience with other local communities.
